My 25-year career as a photographer and photo editor included time spent at every kind of publishing environment, ranging from daily metro newspapers to glossy monthly magazines and stock photo agencies, and included sharing a Pulitzer Prize in 2013 along with the rest of the Denver Post staff.
Since 2013, I have been a digital photo editor at Active Interest Media, responsible for the retouching and color management of photography in a wide variety of titles produced by this media company. These included SKI, Backpacker, Climbing, Arts and Crafts Homes, And Old House Journal magazines. This gallery shows a few of the hundreds of covers I produced during my time at AIM.
I have recently left this position, and am currently accepting clients looking for custom image processing help in their photography and design workflows. From HDR processing to custom color and retouching fun, I’ve seen it all! Give me a call!
After graduating from the California Institute for the Arts, my career began as a studio manager and architectural photographer for Communication Arts, an environmental design firm. This was followed by a few years as the photo editor for Rock & Ice Magazine, which was known for its commitment to outstanding adventure photography from around the globe. I then moved to a position as photo editor for Index Stock Imagery in Denver, where I worked with over 150 photographers in a myriad of specialties, from fashion to lifestyle to wildlife and automotive images.
In 1999 I was named Director of Photography for Inside Communications Inc., where I not only edited the photography for VeloNews, Inside Triathlon, and Ski Racing magazines, but also was a contributing photographer covering races and events as well as producing product and lifestyle images in studio for editorial and catalog applications. After this, I returned to The Denver Post for an eight year stint as a digital photo editor, handling imagery for all sections of the paper and the website. This tenure included a Pulitzer Prize in spot news reporting for the entire staff for their coverage of the Aurora theater shootings in 2013.
